The Walking Dead “Nebraska” Viewing Party a Success.

15 02 2012

As you can see things didn’t bode well for me at last weeks The Walking Dead mid-season premier viewing at Daddy Macs with Fat Beard Studios and Cosmic Comics.  Many of the LEET Ladies saw me as a tasty treat, and that’s not a compliment.  I was neither a survivor nor a zombie, I was just a victim.  A piece of flesh to be feasted upon.  But at least I got to see the episode with my friends and a brewski in my hand before I met my infinite demise.  Check out more awesome pics at Cosmic Comics Facebook page and don’t stare too long at the LEET Ladies, it’s said if you find dead bodies sexy you have something psychologically wrong with you.  Pervert.

Holy shit!  Happy belated birthday former President Abraham Lincoln!

With the newest Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter trailer up, you’ve become one of the most badass presidents to walk the face of God’s green earth.  I can’t wait to see this true documentary of your life.  Love also to FDR American BadAss.

The Walking Dead: We Find Ourselves

14 02 2012

The Walking Dead Volume 15 Review

The Walking Dead has never really been about zombies.  Yes, zombies do roam the earth and yes, they do “feed”, but zombies cannot sustain a comic of this magnitude.  Zombies are easy.  Zombies are safe.  Their basic life consist of infecting and feeding.  It’s grotesque and macabre.  The real strength of The Walking Dead lies within Rick’s group, his cast of characters.  The last time you saw them they were fighting for survival to continue their lives in the “community”.  After the dust settles we’re left with “We Find Ourselves”, a slower book of the series that manages to finish with a bang.

The community has survived two back to back assaults from both the living and the dead.  Their numbers are thinned and their morale is in the gutter.  With Carl in a coma, Rick’s outlook on survival changes from his narrow minded family focus, to a much larger scale, benefiting both his family and the community.  Rick being left in charge doesn’t sit well with some of the community members, but some take notice that without Rick and his gang of misfits, they would never have survived the invasions.  Talks of revolution are circulating around the community making it a proverbial powderkeg ready to explode.

I’m going to spoil something for you because it’s one of the very few times I was actually disappointed in The Walking Dead series.  Carl does wake up, and for a split second he has amnesia.  I was heartbroken, really amnesia?  That’s just so cliche!  Are you going to jump the shark and tell me this was all a dream now too?  Thankfully it’s only a little brain damage…did I really just say that?

Towards the end of Volume 15 tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife. The ending I promise you will not disappoint.  Something happens that made my jaw drop and actually pump my fist in approval like some teenage 80’s flick.  I was so overjoyed I wanted to scream it from the top of a mountain.  It’s something I think everyone wanted but were afraid it would never happen.  I was excited to see it but I’m nervous of where it might lead.  What is it?  You’ll just have to read this one and find out.

Head on down to Cosmic Comics in Las Vegas to pick this doozie up.  You won’t want to miss it!  Trust me.

Gotham City Impostors Wins Heroically.

11 02 2012

Gotham City Impostors Review

I thought this day would never come.  I’ve wanted Gotham City Impostors since the first time I laid hands on it at PAX ’11, and it arrives stronger and better than ever.

Gotham City Impostors is a downloadable first person shooter arcade title brought to you from WB and Monolith.  GCI puts you in the position of wannabe Batmen and Jokers who aren’t afraid to use any means necessary to inflict pain and trauma to their enemies.  As serious as all that sounds, every character is a goof and the game has a very joke oriented feeling.  But underneath it’s cartoonish exterior is a serious FPS title.

Gotham City Impostors has 3 multiplayer modes, 1 challenge and 1 tutorial mode.  The 3 multiplayer modes include Fumigation, Psyche Warfare, and the standard Team Deathmatch.  Fumigation is a conquest/domination type mode where each team tries to capture and hold 3 points in attempt to poison the other team with toxic gas.  Classy right?  In Psyche Warfare you attempt to connect a centrally located battery  to your bases “demotivational loudspeakers”.  The demotivational infomercial music bores into the opposing teams psyche forcing them into a slap happy frenzy.  Be on your toes though, slapping can still kill.  If you’re tired of the same old grind, “Challenge” maps are available for you to improve or test your skills with gold/silver/and bronze rewards.

A huge successful portion to Gotham City Impostors, besides the obvious creative concept, is your characters “Secret Identity.”  This is where GCI far surpasses Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and has it heading into the same arena as Team Fortress 2.  Loadouts, costumes, calling cards, and gangs are all customizable.  Each loadout includes weapons, support items, gadgets, fun facts, psyche profiles, and a body type that leads to almost endless possibilities and a deeply engrossing experience.  I’m a chick when it comes to customizing my characters, so I’m in hog heaven with each piece I can change on my impostors costume.  If customization isn’t your thing and you’re only content knowing you’ve slayed everything in sight,  GCI lets you check your progression to stardom with record tracking, feats of prowess, stamps of excellence, achievements and the all important leaderboards.

Gotham City Impostors isn’t all unicorns and rainbows, it does have some chinks in it’s bedazzled armor.  Matchmaking and joining a match with your party are still having issues even after the beta.  And unless your actually in a party you MUST listen to everyone speak because there is no mute player.  Seriously, no player mute.  It’s like having all the losers of American Idol in your ear and having to endure their train wreck performance.  Funny as that may sound, it’s not an enjoyable experience after about 10 minutes.  But all is not lost true believers, WB and Monolith have already detailed a piece of DLC that’s dropping sometime next month that includes a new map, weapons, a support item, costume choices, and a fun fact.  There will also be patch fixes for joining in-progress matches and the all important ability to mute players.

Gotham City Impostors is a fresh take on the first person shooter genre while still managing to stay true to it’s roots.  It’s a solid, fun, comedic title that deserves a lot of attention.  With a $15 price tag, 1,ooo character levels, and 106 downloadable cosmetic items with more scheduled to drop next month, GCI promises to make sure you never have to leave your house again.  Unless it’s to fight make believe crime in game.  Don’t try vigilante justice in a cape in real life, this isn’t Kick Ass, so behave yourself.

Gotham City Impostors scores an A.

Button Mashing at the Soulcalibur V Tournament.

11 02 2012

Someones not paying attention...

Nerd Farm is all about getting out and mingling with the nerd community.  Last week Insert Coin(s) in Las Vegas held a Soulcalibur V tournament that I decided to try my hand at.  I haven’t played Soulcalibur since the first installment on the Dreamcast and I’ll let you in on a secret, I wasn’t good then and I’m probably even worse now.  I was quickly reminded that Soulcalibur V isn’t really a button mashing fighter as my losses stacked up like Tetris set at the hardest difficulty.  I actually called fellow Nerd Farm author Nic for button mapping and tactics since I didn’t know any of them.  Vertical & horizontal attacks, blocking, and grabs don’t do anything if you can’t actually reach the person you’re trying to attack.  Even Xiba with his staff and Ezio with his hidden guns I couldn’t win more than 2 rounds.  Tournaments at Insert Coin(s) are beginning to get competitive, even more so when it comes to fighters.  Either way I’ll try my hand at any tournament just for the story.  Always an enjoyable experience even if I did lose both matches with a combined record of 2-14.

The next tournament will be for UFC Undisputed 3 on February 14th.  I don’t think I’m brave enough to even attempt that one, maybe I’ll hit the next on for Twisted Metal.
